Shingeki no Kyojin season 3 episode 1 is out now!

Warning: This contains spoilers from Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) season 3 episode 1.

The wait is over and the third season and Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) is finally out!

As always, new season brings in new openings and endings. Sadly, the ending wasn’t revealed yet, so we will talk just about the opening for now.

We are used to Shingeki’s openings: they are epic and always pump you up. For once, the opening is rather calm and peaceful. The song is called “Red Swan” by Yoshiki feat. Hyde. The opening shows mainly the relationship (past and present) of our main trio, Eren, Armin and Mikasa.

We are used to seeing memories of these three as children, but the opening hints that we will get to see the past stories of characters we don’t know much about yet: Levi, Erwin and Historia.

Levi, Erwin and Historia, as they appear in the opening.

That’s pretty much all the information we can get from the opening, so let’s get talking about the actual episode.

The episode opens with Eren looking at the sea and wondering what is beyond that. He has slightly longer hair in this scene, so it might hint at a future appearance. We don’t know if this is supposed to be a dream or not.

Later, we see Hange doing experiments on Eren. However, Eren’s transformation isn’t complete anymore and the experiment fails.

In the evening, the squad gets some shocking news: Pastor Nick was murdered in the Trost District barracks. The Military Police just brush Hange off by saying he was killed and robbed, but Hange deduces that actually the Interior Military Police tortured and killed Pastor Nick.

The scouts receive a message from commander Erwin and quickly dispatch the place they stayed in. Good thing they did, since the Military Police surrounded the place soon after, as they are looking to take Eren and Historia into custody and arrest the others (or even worse, kill them).

The squad heads to Trost District. There, a carriage runs at them and kidnaps Eren and Historia from under their noses. Or so they thought. The ones they actually captured were Jean and Armin in disguise, while Eren and Historia were in a safe carriage.

The kidnappers took the bait, but they need saving too. Mikasa, Sasha and Conny head over to free Armin and Jean from their kidnappers. Meanwhile, Levi is watching the carriage from the roof along with other squad members. Suddenly, a man appears and shoots the squad members. Levi dodges, but it ready to take this man head-on, as he is someone from his past that is known under the name “Kenny the Ripper”.

The episodes ends like this and sadly we will have to wait one more week to find out the outcome of this fight, but it will surely be worth it!
